Scolytinae there is no longer any need for

a rostrum because the whole body has

become a drill, with teeth on the thorax

in many species being used to rasp away

at the wood in order to bore tunnels. A

Scolytinae infestation that is recent can be

recognized by the fresh sawdust thrown out

of their excavations
